DANNY O’CONNOR BECOMES MURPHYS BOXING’S FIRST FIGHTER TO CHALLENGE FOR A CHAMPIONSHIP OF THE WORLD.
Boston - Murphys Boxing, the promotional company founded by Ken Casey of Dropkick Murphys is excited to announce that Danny O’Connor (30-3 11KOs) will become their first fighter to challenge for a championship of the world when he fights undefeated WBC Super Lightweight Champion Jose Ramirez (22-0 16KOs). Danny is no stranger to boxing accolades, having won the 2008 United States future stars national championship where he was presented the “outstanding boxer award” as well as the 2008 national golden gloves championship. This rare accomplishment puts O’Connor in the same esteemed category as such boxing legends as “Sugar” Ray Leonard and Tommy “The Hitman” Hearns. In addition, Danny’s most distinguished and personal accomplishment in boxing was representing his country in the 2008 Olympics as an alternate on the United States boxing team. O’Connor, who has won four in a row since dropping down to Super Lightweight, won the WBC International Silver Super Lightweight Title in November of 2017, when he KO’d the previously undefeated Daniel Gonzalez. In his last fight O’Connor defended his title with a scintillating unanimous decision over the tough Steve Claggett in the Main Event of Murphys Boxing’s annual St Patricks Day card.
Jose Ramirez is making his first title defense since his unanimous decision victory over Amir Imam at Madison Square Garden last March. The hard hitting, undefeated Ramirez poses a tough challenge to O’Connor, but one he see’s only as the last hurdle to fulfilling his destiny of becoming a World Champion.
